Here's what I'm making today: my mom's recipe for these delicious, candy-like cookies that coagulate into sort of chocolate's birds' nests. They're called Kindergarten Kookies because she used to send them into school on our birthdays.
KINDERGARTEN KOOKIES
In a mixing bowl:
3 cups oats
1/2 cup cocoa OR 1 square unsweetened chocolate
1 cup coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup pecans OR dates
Boil hard 1 minute:
2 cups sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 cup milk
Have ingredients ready that are in mixing bowl before you boil other ingredients. Boil sugar, butter and milk* and then mix with the ingredients in the mixing bowl. Then drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper and let set until hard enough to eat.
*And square of chocolate if using instead of cocoa powder.
