When I was a DC intern, Dan Raspler let me have a copy of Mark Waid's script for JLA...#57, I think, so I could draw some sample pages for editorial critiquing. Concensus was I need some more anatomy work, and my layout isn't conducive to the story, and I need to build up on the backgrounds and all...standard comments and pretty much my own criticisms of myself. So these would have been drawn about...August? of 2001.
Script goes like this: Plastic Man says "Only the real Green Lantern knows my name!" Martian says: "Or a telepath" and fries him with heat vision. All Martians have heat vision, even though their sole weakness is fire. I know, go figure. Plas wheezes as the Green Lanterns -- ALL of them Martians -- surround him, turning back into their original form. The killing blast is deflected by the real deal, however. Comments for this page were pretty much the same as before.
Self-critique: Panel 1 sucks. Panel 2 looks like it's Panel 3 (bad layout) and the Martian's head sucks, but the rest of the panel's pretty nifty. Melting Plas in panel 3 is cool especially the textures, but he needs more fingers and better legs. I like the transforming Martians. Panel 4: The Martians are stiff, pitiful. Plas and the bubble are ok.
