I’ve loved Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor whiskey since it was cheap and I was a whiskey idiot. Now it’s expensive and I’m a whiskey idiot, but I can still summon some great reasons why you should get your hands on a bottle of Buffalo Trace’s newest addition to the Taylor family, the Barrel Proof Rye. My argument is compelling in that I had to fight myself not to drink the entire tasting sample until the article was approved. My methodology is faultless, in that I drank whiskey and enjoyed.
Less glibly, this is the kind of rye that reminds me why I like whiskey. Its big fruit flavor and richness are interesting. Engaging with them is a new sensation, kind of like listening to a new song, with interesting chord changes, for the first time. I enjoyed and recommend this Taylor, if you can find it before everyone else twigs to how good it is.
